Description

Beside the Bi-Co-Ni-(Ag-U) vein type deposits the Erzgebirge is also known for skarn mineralization (as from Pöhla,Schwarzenberg and others).

One of the most famous skarn deposits is Breitenbrunn, where a base metal skarn had been mined for centuries. It was the "type locality" for Christophite  (ie , Marmatite; black sphalerite). This is a small example of one of the typical skarn silicates: a dark brown andradite garnet on matrix.
