Description

A Siegerland old time classic: limonite as botryoidal aggregates with seemingly a dull blackish grey layer of manganese oxides covering the specimen in part. The labels assign it to the collection of Bergdirektor Friedrich Wilhelm Rüping from Zinnwald whose grandfather owned some mines in the Siegen area during the 19th century. As locality is given the Eisengarten Mine, which could either be the Brüderbund Mine in Eiserfeld or the Eisengarten Mine near Mittelhof. Siegen/Siegerland as generic locality is quite a safe statement.
