Description

Another Groom-Napier riddle: fibrous haematite as part of kidney ore with the habit of the so called "pencil ore". Label states Phillips, Cleveland. I couldn´t find any literature / web resource on haematite in this form from Cleveland so i suspect the specimen to be from the UK like a lot of the M&M specimens. Could be Lancashire (now Cumbria) or West Cumbria Iron Ore Field. But just a speculation, maybe someone knows this stuff, which is despite of all uncertainties quite rare. Groom Napier was well known for making up localities to "increase" the value/rarity  of his specimens.
