Atlasite

Ex Dr F Krantz (Bonn Germany)

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.5 × 3.7 × 3.5 cm
Description

A rare example: Atlasite from Chanarcillo. Atlasite is a discredited name for a mixture of copper minerals (according to mindat azurite and atacamite). This specimen from the 19th century was labeled atlasite by Krantz (at a time when atlasite was still recognized as a mineral species, so his judgement can be trusted), it seems to be a mixture of chrysocolla and atacamite/malachite. I can´t see any azurite.
