Description

Nice example of a typical Verneuil boule of intense red colour. The boule was split in half along the vertical axis (which is important in the process to relieve tensions in the boule) so the clear interior can be seen. The Verneuil process was the first commercially successful method of manufacturing synthetic gemstones, developed in the late 1800s by the French chemist Auguste Verneuil. Nice LW UV fluorescence. From the B. Moniac collection, laboratory is unknown.
