Description

Specimens from Vietnam are not really abundant. This brownish more complex tourmaline crystal comes out of the collection of german mineralogist and former head of the Institute of Geosciences of the Mainz Gutenberg University Prof. Dr. D. Sc. h.c. Wolfgang Hofmeister. The crystal has prismatic habit with rhombohedral (and pinacoid) terminations. The composition was not analyzed, it is reported that there are mixed compositions of liddicoatite and elbaite, although the colour would be more typical of dravite. Most of the specimens reported are elbaite rich. Probably from Minh Tien pegmatite.
