Description

Specimens from Vietnam are not really abundant. This quite large greenish-brownish to pinkish translucent, striated tourmaline crystal comes out of the collection of german mineralogist and former head of the Institute of Geosciences of the Mainz Gutenberg University Prof. Dr. D. Sc. h.c. Wolfgang Hofmeister. The crystal is long prismatic with rhombohedral terminations. The edges show edge wear, possibly due to short transport under eluvial/alluvial conditions. The composition was not analyzed, it is reported that there are mixed compositions of liddicoatite and elbaite. Probably from Minh Tien pegmatite area.
