Description

Schalenblende form the Aachen-Stolberg-La Calamine district has become famous and there were numerous mines which produced fine specimens until the first third of the 20th century. After all mines were closed finds were restricted to old dumps of which the majority has been landscaped or converted to protected nature reserves nowadays. This one side polished specimen is said to be from dumps of the Lontzen mine. The collector told me he found it almost 50 years ago, though the rough coordinates he gave me are not corresponding to the main site of the Lontzen mine. The banding is quite different from the Schalenblende of the Schmalgraf and Eschbroich mines, a bit similar to some specimens from Fossei i have handled in the past. So the attribution to a distinct mine is a bit unsure and i will stick to the ifo the collector gave me.
