Orthoclase & Muscovite

ex J.J. Sasamoto
Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Otaniyama Mine, Yamada-machi, Shimohei District, Iwate Prefecture, Honshu Island, Japan
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
4 × 2.8 × 2.5 cm
Description

Japanese minerals, particularly the older classics, are increasingly hard to obtain. This specimen is out of the Sasamoto collection at Krantz in Bonn, GER. A pegmatite small miniature specimen with beige coloured twinned orthoclase and some muscovite. Rare example with old label. The label states Otaniyama, Omi prefecture. Omi is nowadays the Shiga prefecture .... i suspect that the specimen comes from the miarolithic granites maybe connected with the occurrences aroung Tanakami Yama - some sources hint to the fact that both localities are the same or nearby.
