Description

A 19th century classic: from the type locality comes this specimen of gooseberry greenish grossular garnets forming translucent crystals in matrix. Old material from Dr. F. Krantz, with old label. Grossular was named due to the colour of these Wilui specimens because it is similar to green gooseberrys, scientific name Ribes grossularia. The label gives an exact locality: "Linkes Ufer des Wilui, 4 km höher als die Mündung des Flusses Achtaranda", translated: Left shore of the Wilui river 4 km higher than the Achtaragda river mouth.
