Description

19th century classic from Spain: massive fine-grained cinnabar from Almaden. The accompanying label states native mercury which has evaporated from the surface during the many decades the specimen was stored in an old locker. Under a 10x lens there seem to be very tiny droplets of native Hg in the cinnabar ore.
