Locality:
Kucevo, Petrovac, Braničevo District, Central Serbia, Serbia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.6 × 4 × 2.3 cm
Description

A rare european gold specimen from Kucevo, Serbia. Kucevo is located 130 km southeast of Belgrade and is believed to have been an ancient settlement from the Roman Period. The discovery of gold coins here featuring the Emperor Hadrian confirms the presence of the Roman Empire in Kucevo in 128 BC. There, Hadrian mined gold and silver and thus the mining history has a long tradition here although the locality is not very well known for gold specimens in general (mindat doesn´t list it for instance). The specimen is a vuggy quartz with some small lustrous gold specks and sheets with some crystal faces present. A rare european classic and seldom seen!
