Description

This specimen shows a series of very large, light red rhodonite crystals imbedded in a matrix of coarse grained, white calcite.

The rhodonite occurs as large tabular masses with numerous fractures as is typical for the species.

Psilomelane occurs as shiny, black botryoidal masses enhancing the contrast between the white of the calcite and the red of the rhodonite.

The sample comes from the North Mine, Broken Hill, Australia.
