Description

The Chia (sometimes also named Chiar) Mine has a relatively short history. It was just a small open pit located between Pederneira and Cruzeiro Mine. In the late 90ties the famous US-collector Eugene Meieran and the well known US-dealer Wayne Thompson invested in a mining project at the locality - not successful in quantity, but very successful in quality. Overall - in the last 30 years the mine produced only a very limited number of specimen, but there was a wide range of colors and great diversity. Next to Tourmaline Spodumene, Smoky Quartz and Quartz was found, Lepidolite as nice addition to some of the Tourmalines. The Tourmalines came in dark, intense green, also in strong pink and - during the last years - more multi-colored. There are some specimen - like the particular one - which look similar to Pederneira, others were strong pink and remind more to Cruzeiro. The mine is more close to Cruzeiro than to Pederneira and I think the geology that influences the colors is a mix of both localities. This would also explain the wide field of colors from Chia. This particular specimen stands out the crowd - the Tourmaline is resting on a thin elongated Quartz crystal. This Quartz crystal is only a few millimeters thick from front to back, it is razor sharp terminated, highly lustrous and flawless; optical! In the center of it you can see this gemmy, sharp terminated, glossy Tourmaline crystal. It also shows excellent translucency - the photos were done without any light source; just under daylight. The crystal shows steps of green to partly blue-green color. A tourmaline lying on a well shaped Quartz crystal in highest possible quality is for sure something really special. No significant damages to report (the Quartz shows a contact at the right hand side at the lower base).
