Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Cavnic Mine, Maramureș County, Romania
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
12.1 × 10.8 × 4.8 cm
Description

This is a very fine specimen and it represents a rare kind of calcite. The color is not just a rusty layer – it is caused by inclusions and it is not brownish – more orange. These speharical aggregates farme sharp, lustrous quartz crystals – one set in the center raising up vertically. In the middle of the specimen there is a white, sparkling aggregate – so far this was known as – also – Calcite. Recent analyse showed that this is stilbite. So we have orange calcite, glassy lustrous quartz crystals and as cherry on the cake this arrangement and rare combination with Stilbite. No significant damages to report and something really uncommon for Cavnic.
