Description

Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – ever heard about boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans, so this is really a historic locality. Now more about this excellent specimen: It consists of sharp inter-grown siderite crystals. A part of them is covered with a light blue chalcedony and the upper crystals are framed and/or partly covered with tiny snowy white calcite crystals. Such good material from this famous locality are very hard to obatin. It is years ago, that I had such a fine piece! Should be high ranked for rarity and locality!
