Fluorite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, United States of America
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6 × 4.8 × 2.8 cm
Description

The matrix consists of whitle tiny crystals of dolomite and lustrous calcites. Perched at the top you can see a sharp terminated sparkling fluorite (24mm on edges) - the faces show fantastic luster and an amazing texture, which looks like tiny squares. Along the edges you can see a dark purple concentration of color - the color is very intense; even for Elmwood, the contrast is wonderful! Most crystals are on sphalerite, which is also nice, but this combination of colors is much more attractive.
