Andradite & Hedenbergite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Avissalos, Serifos Island, Milos, South Aegean, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.3 × 6 × 4.8 cm
Description

Field collecting on Serifos island is prohibited, collectors who tried to dig were even arrested from the local police; so no new material can be expected and all we have are specimen from old discoveries - material is relly limited and good pieces are more and more difficult to obtain! This particular specimen shows very good quality: there is this sharp dark zoning along all edges which makes it stand out the crowd and thesharp terminarion and the good qality of all faces. The assemble with these two exposed crystals is also very attractive and the contrast of the red-brown andradite crystals to greenish hedenbergite matrix is really fine, too.
