Tourmaline & Lepidolite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Pederneira Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.7 × 6.7 × 5 cm
Description

Two sharp terminated and very glossy crystals formed a perfect „V“. The crystal to the right hand side shows a touch of green at the double terminated base, most of the crystal is steel-blue, at the end point you can see (better in person) a 1mm thick dark violet zoning. The crystal to the left hand side is steel-blue from bottom to top. The base of the specimen consists of several inter grown Tourmaline crystals, matrix and Lepidolite. The Lepidolite developed small aggregates, which are scattered all over, they show a strong violet color, which helps to give a lot of contrast to the piece. But the mayor indicator, that makes this piece stand out the crowd is this very aesthetic assemble and - there are no repairs! Caused by tectonical reasons all crystals on matrix from Pederneira are repaired, only very small ones are on matrix and in natural state. Not so here - although the crystals are completely free-standing there are no repairs at all. This is really exceptional!
