Description

The specimen was mined in the 3rd cavern of the famous summit cleft, located in the south face of Weisseck Mt., below peak elevation (2711m). Most specimen are clusters, extracted from a bigger vein, not even 5% of all material consists of isolated crystals like the particular one (up to 84mm on edges, icluding the steps). Further large crystals like these need strong backlight, but the particular specimen shows very good translucency and so it needed only a little backlight to show the internal colors. And the most important indicator is the framing with calcite at the base, this gives contrast and aesthetics to the piece and makes it also stand out the crowd next to nearly most other specimen. I am very familar with the locality, I worked there and wrote an article for the Mineralogical Record magazine about the discovery - so it is a very serious evaluation, when I tell you that this is a top specimen for Weisseck and among the finest pieces from the Summit Cleft. The crystals show a stepped habit along all edges, they are in good condition damage-wise, backside was on the rock. The specimen was in my personal collection, it will come with a map of the cleft, that shows exactly (on the meter) where it was extracted. It will come with my personal label and it includesa painting of the wonderful artist Stephanie Behrens, the second photo in the gallery shows her painting (format A3). Only the value of the painting is 240 Euro, the specimen should be high valued for it´s outstanding characteristics.
