Description

So-called Heřmanov sphere - spherical aggregate of coarse-grained phlogophite with rim of radial anthophyllite. Anthophyllite is an amphibole mineral: a magnesium iron inosilicate hydroxide. It is a common component of some metamorphic and metasomatic rocks. In this specimen, the anthophyllite has been peeled back to show that it was wrapped around a complete lozenge of phlogopite (one of the rarer members of the mica group).
