Description

A very beautiful calcite specimen and from a rare, historic locality. Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – do you know boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans. Now more about the specimen: Semi-lustrous intense blue hemispheres of chalcedony covered large sharp terminated crystals of siderite. Nice contrast to brownish siderite matrix. No significant demages to report.
