Jos Plateau, Plateau, Nigeria
Class:
Single Crystal
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3.5 × 1.1 × 1 cm
Description

The emeralds from Jos can get very large but like this one are usually under-saturated in color. That said, they are infinitely gemmier than their Colombian cousins and exhibit a deeper blue-green color. In addition, they are more interesting from a crystallographic viewpoint, with lovely bi-pyramidal terminations. The crystal shows one special feature, which is was impossible to capture with the camera: there are a few darker saturated sharp stripes in the middle of the crystal, you can see this effect only with naked eye. The specimen is razor-sharp terminated and literally gemmy, the faces are all highly lustrous. This material is very rare and in this size and qualitiy. It is very hard to get just a sample and this one is truely a major piece for this very rare locality.
