Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Mur Source, Murwinkel, Tamsweg District, Salzburg, Austria
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3.2 × 2 × 1.7 cm
Description

Alpine rutile is generally very rare, but from Lungau area it is really outstanding. The crystal shows dark red color and uncountable sharp and lustrous steps - and it is even end-pointed. The crystal is completely freestanding, it shows a very attractive contrast to light dolomite crystals. Finally you can see a small group of green quartz crystals (caused by chlorite inclusions) to the left hand side. A superb sample of alpine Rutile from a very rare locality !
