Description
Locality:
Frazers Hush Mine, Weardale, County Durham, United Kingdom
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
12.9 × 8 × 5.4 cm
Description

The name of the locality is caused by the mining methode. "hush mining" means that the miners remove the grass and mud from the rock below with strong water-jet. The owner of the mine was Mr. Frazer - so the loaclity name was Frazers Hush. So far about history - now more about the specimen: The sharp terminated crystals are highly lustrous and sharp terminated - most of them developed penetration twins. The most special indicator is the daylight fluorescence. Most Northern England fluorite specimens show this effect, but I rarely saw a specimen from other localities or mines, which show the daylight-fluorescence so strong. Under daylight the crystals show a really neon purple color. Photos cannot display this effect - in real life they seem to glow!
