Description

Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – do you know boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans, so this is really a historic locality. Now more about the particular specimen: It consists of darker chalcedony at the base and larger, lighter calcite crystals, which were also covered by chalcedony. A very impressive and aesthetic assemble! Material from the area was never common and became more and more rare during the last few years. No significant damages to report.
