Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – ever heard about boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans, so this is really a historic locality. Now more about this excellent specimen: well developed siderite crystals are covered with pale blue chalcedony, finally these coated crystals are framed with tiny, snowy white calcite crystals along the edges. No significant damages to report, backside was on the rock.
