Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Oberdorf an der Laming, Laming Valley, Bruck-Mürzzuschlag District, Styria, Austria
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.7 × 4.3 × 3.2 cm
Description

The locality produced the largest and best strontianite specimen world-wide! Usually we know this mineral in mm-size and colorless to grey. Only Oberdorf produced crystal in this size and color. The locality is closed since decades. After an accident (a collector died in the old shafts), field collecting became prohibited. So the only material on the market only comes from some old collections - quantity is very limited. The particular specimen is a well formed, tri-dimensional cluster which consist of intergrown crystals. These crystals show multiple stepped, sharp faces, which are partly glossy. Hard to photograph, better in person.
