Description

Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – do you know boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans, so this is really a historic locality. The specimen shows a very tridimensional assemble of intergrown calcite-scalenohedrons coated with blue to lavender colored chalcedony. Very good for the locality, no significant damages to report.
