Description

Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – ever heard about boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans, so this is really a historic locality. Now more about the specimen: The matrix consists of brownish siderite. One it you can see sevral exposed calcite scalenohedrons which were finally covered with translucent blue chalcedony, which shows beautiful satiny luster.
