Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Mauterndorf Quarry, Mauterndorf, Taurach Valley, Tamsweg District, Salzburg, Austria
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
4 × 3.1 × 2.2 cm
Description

The specimen is from a small recent discovery in Lungau - but not from Weisseck, it is from Twenger Au area, a completely different locality, kilometers away from Weisseck. This fluorite is from an oxidation zone (that´s why they are strong etched), where shists and dolomite collide. It would need 2 or 3 decades of mining work (whic is prohibited in the entire area) to come to the next zone, which shows the same conditions - so this material is really unique. The finders where there for this blink of an eye in geology to safe this material and it will never come again, absoluty a rarity!  95% of the whole material are small single crystals, matrix pieces were exceptional. The particular specimen shows a group of intense blue crystals set on red-brown matrix - very aesthetic, great contrast.
