Description

Galena is for sure among the important minerals from the locality. For Europe one of the most relevant localities for the mineral (next to Bulgaria, which will not fit to your indicators for localities and to historic mines in Northern England). The material from Cavnic is very typical; rounded large crystals, which are very glossy and show silver-like luster. There is one "problem“ for collectors: usually specimen are only plates of inter grown crystals. These are most times large, but no exposed crystals, no contrast and so most times not really attractive. So this particular specimen stands out the crowd. It was really hard to photograph and so I have to note that the specimen is much more tridimensional in person. The huge main crystal (about 5cm across) is very exposed.

And we have the combination with Siderite, which frames most edges of crystals – and so we have a very attractive assemble and contrast, this is the special thing about this specimen! It has contrast, it shows exposed crystals – so this is a really beautiful and eye-catching specimen, this is exceptional under so many unattractive material from the locality. Minor Chalcopyrite and Sphalerite is also present.

No significant damages to report (only backside was on the rock)
