Description

Holzen Quarry is usually well known for Calcite, not spectacular but fine for this locality. Barite is really very rare from Holzen. And if there is one, it is usually grey and dull and most times it developed only tiny crystals. There were some discoveries with larger crystals about 10 years ago, but also these specimen were not compare able to the particular one. The specimen consists of inter grown crystals, the most exposed and largest ones attractively set in the center. First exceptional thing is the color – they are all red to pink, maybe „salmon“ is the right description.

Second point is the quality of surface – all crystals are highly lustrous, all faces show wonderful structures. The specimen is on matrix, which frames the Barite crystals along the edges of the piece. Absolutely undamaged.
