Description

Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – do you know boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans, so this is really a historic locality. This particular specimen consists of intergrown siderite crystals. These are all highly lustrous, their termination is razor sharp and faces show amazing texture. Their edges are farmed with snowy white tiny calcite crystals and set in the center you can see some larger main crystals of calcite. A very showy and rare specimen from this famous locality, in excellent condition damage-wise.
