Okorusu Mine, Otjiwarongo, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia

Combination

Cabinet (10-18 cm)

12.5 × 12.3 × 8.6 cm
Description

This is a very uncommon specimen. Usually all specimen from the mine became cleaned directly after mining with acid. So we have no specimen with manganese layer and calcite on the mineral market. The specimen miner was able to safe only a couple of specimen from the cleaning process some years ago. Meanwhile the mining conditions in Okorusu mine changed, specimen mining is no more longer possible and no new material - generally - can be expected. With acid you will have a wonderfull glossy, dark green fluorite underneath the manganese layer - with remarkable crystal size. But in my evaluation the manganese layer and the calcite make this specimen very special, it really stands out teh crowd. So I kept it in this condition and hold it in my collection for a couple of years.
