Description

Some general information: Some years ago, the years before 2010, an Austrian collector visited Egypt. He was on the hunt for minerals and bring some new stuff. One of his aims were the beautiful pseudomorphoses of goethite/limonite after pyrite and marcasite from the White Desert. Before he panned his way to the locations near Farafra Oasis (the exact location) he talked to the members of the Egyptian Museum in Kairo if they do own such specimens. They didn't. So a deals was made to bring some specimens out of Egypt. The museum will take some of the specimens that will be found and the finder got will get the declaration to cross the border with the rest. With this certificate he could go on to reach Farafra area. It took him many days to get there: on the way he had to stop and visit a lot of people and even a koran-school. All guys he met were very friendly. Finally he arrived the area the pseudomorphosis can be found. He stayed there for two days and collected some very nice stuff. But the very best items were found on a single spot of only a few square-meters somewhere in the desert. He picked up some crazy stuff like a 360 degree specimen of goethite after marcasite, pseudomorphosis of goethite after pyrite and marcasite or fossilized worm-tunnel. I don't need to say that the transport of these specimens was anything but easy. He told me the most difficult part was to bring the specimens into the plane. Even if he had this certificate from the museum and some money working in the background he couldn't be sure to pass without problems. But finally he passed with his find as the officers were informed and got their money... Now we can show you one of the really fine specimen from this discovery:  A spectacular item showing very interesting pseudomorphosis after marcasite. The specimen is crystallized all around and displayable from all sides. There's no damage, just a very fine  and aesthetic item.
