Dolomite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Sunk, Hohentauern, Niedere Tauern, Styria, Austria
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 4.6 × 4.3 cm
Description

An other famous Austrian classic. The mine is closed since decades and only a few local collectors were able to dig in only one, not collapsed shaft. Today digging is prohibited there and when I visited the locality 3 years ago, I recognize that even this last shaft if in danger to collaps and it´s too dangerous to work there. The particular specimen features a large twinned crystal in very good quality. It is very lustrous and shows internal refraction, which reminds to oil on water (I tried to show this on close-up photography). The matrix is covered with tiny, grey crystals of first generation. No significant damages to report.
