Hüttenberg is an old, historic mining area – iron was mined there. Really of relevance in it´s history – ever heard about boric iron? The high quality iron (ferrum noricum) , which was used for Roman Army came from Hüttenberg and Erzberg. First mentioned in old documents from 1266! But we know about mining even before the old Romans, so this is really a historic locality. Now more about the specimen: it consists of intergrown siderite crystals, all covered by blue chalcedony. Along some edges siderite crystals are framed with glossy, sharp terminated, white calcite crystals. Undamaged, accept the bottom was on the rock.
