Galena & Calcite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Bad Bleiberg, Villach-Land District, Carinthia, Austria
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.6 × 4.8 × 3.2 cm
Description

The specimen shows a fine and rare combination of dark grey, sharp galena (it shows satiny luster) and well developed calcite (var. Kanonenspat). The main crystal in the center is more exposed than shown on my photography. The combination with calcite makes it more special and different from other smaples and helps to give contrast to the specimen. The old mines in this famous mining area are closed since the 60ties and all flooded with water, it is impossible to dig or even find a sample there in our days. Minor barite is also present, set between some galena crystals at the base. Undamaged, accept bottom was on the rock.
