Description

Mellite is 21mm across. The crystal is sharp, lustrouse and shows brown-green color. Although there are minor chips and although it is intergrwon to matrix it represents a great rarity in remarkable dimension at fine quality. Mellite is actually an organic compound, a bizarre species indeed! It is an Aluminium mellitate (benzene hexacarboxylate) hydrate, a rare secondary mineral in lignite deposits.
