Description

Glass box or lidded box with an erotic antique relief motif in the form of a nymph or female nude from the company Curt Schlevogt, Gablonz Bohemia in the color Anna yellow - Eleonora green made of uranium glass or Vaseline glass.

Design: Frantisek Pazourek, Gablonz 1932 The lidded bowl is a beautiful example of 1930s craftsmanship.

Uranium glass (also known as Vaseline glass) is a type of glass that contains uranium oxide compounds as a colorant. These give the glass light yellow (Anna yellow) to light green (Eleonora green) transparent shades.

To distinguish between normal green glass and uranium glass, hold the object under a black light. The yellowish to greenish uranium VI oxide compounds (sodium diuranate, uranyl compounds) then begin to fluoresce green.

In America it is known as “vaseline glass”, in England it is called “canary glass” and in France it is called “verre canary”.
