Description

This specimen features several “fans”of small, but exceptionally nice, eudidymite. In addition, there is some “swiss cheese” kupletskite with possible niobokupletskite growing in the holes. (Neither the “kupletskite” nor the “niobokupletskite” has been analyzed, so, strictly speaking, they should be called “astrophyllite supergroup”. But, at least for the “kupletskite”, I would be very surprised if it were anything else. While the “swiss cheese” stuff looks pretty strange, that is probably just due to etching, and there is also quite typical looking kupletskite on the specimen – as shown in the photos.)

The first photo (FOV 3.3 x 2.1 mm) shows the “front” side of one of the best eudidymite “fans”.

The next photo (FOV 2.5 x 3.7) shows the “back” of this “fan” (rotated 90 degrees). The out-of-focus lump in the center is actually another “fan” growing perpendicular to this one. It is shown in the next pair of photos.

The next photo (FOV 2.2 x 2.6 mm) shows the “fan” that is stuck to the “back” of the one shown in the first pair of photos. It is somewhat glassier looking in the photo, mostly due to differences in lighting.

The next photo (FOV 2.1 x 2.1 mm) shows yet another glassy “fan”.

The nextphoto (FOV 4.6 x 5.2 mm) attempts to show some of the “swiss cheese” kupletskite. The lighter, almost fibrous stuff lining the holes could be niobokupletskite, but, as mentioned, it was not analyzed.

The next pair of photos (FOV 4.2 x 6.5 mm) shows some much more typical looking “kupletskite”. Unfortunately, most of the terminations (except for the small “book” at lower left) ran into the wall of the cavity. There is also another small (ca 1.15 mm) “fan” of eudidymite at upper left.

The matrix is mostly anhedral/broken analcime, with a few very small intact crystals.

Single item shipping weight (with MM case) is 5.5 oz (156 g). For shipments outside the USA, up to a total weight < 8 oz (225g), this can be combined with items from this or other auctions for the same postage.

Within the USA, postage for total weights up to 13 oz ranges from $4.50 to $6.50 (including packing etc) regardless of destination. Above 13 oz, I will use “own box” Priority Mail. The rate, including packing, varies by destination from $7.25 to $9.50.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
