Description

Tuperssuatsiaite is a very rare mineral at MSH – much less common than yofortierite. This is an excellent, analyzed, sample from igneous breccia. The qualitative EDS scan (see the “Analysis” tab) can not be mistaken for either yofortierite or raite because both have substantial Mn. But the scan could, and initially was, mistaken for an amphibole. However the XRD pattern was “tuperssuatsiaite like”. That doesn’t mean that it is some new mineral. Apparently this is a common result for tuperssuatsiaite from MSH as well as the nearby Demix-Varennes quarry in the Saint-Amable sill. This is probably as verified a tuperssuatsiaite from MSH as you are likely to see. To be more definitive, WDS would be needed – expensive.

The first pair of photos (FOV 6.7 x 4.5 mm) is a close-up of some of the tuperssuatsiaite fibers.

The full-view photo shows most, but not all of the tuperssuatsiaite on the specimen.

The yellow arrow points to a nice little group of apophyllite crystals. These are shown in the last pair of photos (FOV 2.3 x 3.0 mm). Individual crystals are 1.1 mm long. They exhibit a habit that is relatively rare at MSH

Single item shipping weight (with TN case) 3.3 oz (94 g). Outside the USA, the stated postage and packing rate applies up to a total weight of 8 oz (225g).

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
