Description

Chabzaite-Na is a very rare mineral at MSH, except in the core of the Poudrette pegmatite, where it was locally abundant. This is a very rich example from that environment. Perhaps 50% (or more) of the specimen consists of chabazite-Na. The matrix is mostly albite with some analcime and very minor siderite and gonnardite/natrolite. There is also at least one, very small, gobbinsite aggregate. The chabazite consists of both very tightly packed  spheroidal aggregates and more attractive “open” rosettes. The photos show some examples of the latter. There are many others. The material was confirmed as chabzite via EDS and PXRD on another specimen from the same part of the pegmatite. (See the “Analysis” tab for the EDS scan.)

FOV in the first pair of photos is 2.4 x 3.5 mm. The chabazite “rosettes” are ca 1.5 mm in diameter with individual discs to 1.2 mm.

The third photo (FOV 3.7 x 5.0 mm) is a broader view of the same area.

The next pair of photos (FOV 2.3 x 3.1 mm) shows an aggregate of rosettes spanning 2.2 mm. Note the very small gobbinsite aggregate in the upper left. The two minerals were often associated.

The next two pairs of photos (FOV 6.4 x 4.25 and 4.1 x 6.3 mm resp.) show numerous rosettes from another area on the specimen. The individual discs are a bit < 1 mm in diameter.

There isn’t much contrast between the chabzaite, albite, and analcime, so I have a provided arrows to point out a few of the rosettes.

This is not a delicate specimen. Single item shipping weight (no case) is 4.2 oz (120 g). For shipments outside the USA, up to a total weight < 8 oz (225g), this can be combined with items from this or other auctions for the same postage.

Within the USA, postage increases by about $0.20 per ounce. Above 13 oz, I will use Priority Mail ($9.25 including packing).

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
