Description

Rémondite-(Ce) is a very rare mineral, known only from a handful of localities. It is very rare at MSH, but apparently not as rare as at the other localities.

The first pair of photos (FOV 6.6 x 4.4 mm) show dark silvery-gray “brooms” of rémondite-(Ce) to 3.1 mm. This is one of the three main habits for rémondite at MSH. In the center are two small smoky quartz crystals and in the upper right corner is the tip of a very thin eudidymite crystal. There are also a few very small gemmy siderite rhombs. The larger white crystals are “feldspar” – probably microcline. It may be helpful to view these very “busy” photos in stereo.

Some of these photos can be viewed in stereo on the Web. But you will have to search for them. Off-site references can't be given here.

The second pair of photos (FOV 6.8 x 4.5 mm) shows almost all of the eudidymite, which spans about 4.5 mm. The two quartz crystals on the left are well terminated. The larger one on the right has a pitted/contacted termination – the result of running into the wall of the little cavity.

The fifth photo (FOV 6.8 x 4.4 mm) shows more rémondite-(Ce) in an adjacent part of the cavity. The little bit of eudidymite in the lower left corner is part of the aggregate shown in the previous two photos.

Incidentally, the other two “common” habits for rémondite at MSH are red-orange brooms of similar shape, grading to radiating prismatic crystals, and pale to deep red-orange, gemmy to opaque, apatite like crystals. It is also found as subhedral to anhedral embedded masses, etc. Most varieties exhibit very strong REE absorption lines.

Single item shipping weight 3.8 oz. Outside the USA, the stated postage and packing rate applies up to a total weight of 8 oz (225 g).

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
