Description

This specimen features numerous tiny zincite pyramids aggregated into “balls” <= 0.9 mm in diameter. Small as these crystals are, bear in mind that natural zincite crystals of any size are rare.

The first photo (FOV 6.9 x 4.5 mm) is an overview of most of the zincite bearing area on the specimen. The pinkish/tan areas is drusy hodgkinsonite in crystals < 0.1 mm.

The best zincite crystals are shown in the three close-up photos (FOV 1.4 x 0.8 mm,  1.5 x 1.2  mm, and 1.8 x 1.3 mm resp.). The largest ones are ca 1/3 mm tall. Such crystals are too small for me to photograph properly. They will look better and clearer through a scope, but you will need 30-60X to see them clearly. Better optics than mine would help.

The fourth photo (FOV 3.2 x 2.3) is a view at half the magnification of another area of relatively good crystals. But at this scale they don’t look very distinct in a photo. The foreground is drusy hodgkinsonite (on sussexite).

A close-up of some of the sussexite (with a bit of drusy hodgkinsonite and tiny zincite crystals) is shown in the fifth photo (FOV 6.9 x 4.4 mm). There are also a few really tiny rhombs of very pale pink – nearly white – rhodochrosite.

The pyrochroite is the black arera in the full-view photo. It is very nondescript. Under and to the right of the pyrochroite is sussexite, covered in places with drusy hodgkinsonite. The zincite balls are mostly at top center  The matrix is calcite-free willemite-franklinite ore.

Single item shipping weight is 7.2 oz (6.5 oz without a case). Note that USPS foreign packet rates recently increased significantly. Outside the USA, the stated postage and packing rate applies up to a total weight of 8 oz (225 g).  If shipped without a case, a few small items could be included.  Above a total weight of 8 oz (225 g), the rate (up to 32 oz or 950 g) increases by $6 to Canada and by $9 to other destinations.

Within the USA, there is only a nominal increase of $0.20 for each additional ounce. Above 13 oz, I will use Priority Mail. Up to 16 oz, the “own box” Priority rate is $8.50 (including packing).

Please see my "Shipping Policy" for details.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
