Description

Chabazite-Na is a rare mineral at MSH – except in the core of the Poudrette pegmatite, which probably produced more than 99% of the chabazite-Na at MSH (László Horváth -private communication.) As attested by the associated horváthite-(Y), this specimen is from that core. It is very rich in chabazite-Na.

Moreover, EDS (see the “Analysis” tab), strongly suggests that this is chabazite-Na rather than gmelinite-Na, despite the fact that, as shown in the first photo (FOV 6.4 x 4.0), the cahabazite occurs in rosetttes of distinct platy crystals. Usually, when one sees platy zeolite rosettes at MSH, one is looking at gmelinite-Na. However, while EDS is generally not a definitive way to ID zeolites, the scans (especially the second one), seem rather indicative in this case.

The first scan is from the area shown in the first photo. There is some Ca, making the chabazite-Na ID a bit ambiguous. The second scan is from an area of “golf ball” chabazite-Na more typical of MSH. The scan for this area is also more like what one would expect for chabazite-Na – no Ca at all. (The Cl may be residue from an ill-advised HCl test.)

The horváthite-(Y) spray in the Z photo is a bit > 4 mm. It is not the best of horváthites – about half of the top is bruised. (The good side is facing the other way. But I don’t think it would be possible to make this side visible without breaking the horváthite.)

To compensate, there is a great deal of chabazite-Na – otherwise a very rare mineral at MSH.

Most of the chabazite is so tightly packed that the edges of individual platy xls are barely discernible. Numerous “golf ball” like aggregates are shown in the three macro photos. The arrow points to the horváthite-(Y).

Single item shipping weight is 5.0 oz. Note that USPS foreign packet rates recently increased significantly. It may be advantageous for foreign customers to hold an "open box" so as to reduce postage costs by combining items from a future auction. Let me know, and I will generate a new “item only” invoice. Postage will be invoiced when all items are actually shipped.

Outside the USA, the stated postage and packing rate applies up to a total weight of 8 oz (225 g).

Within the USA, there is a nominal increase of $0.20 for each additional ounce. Above 13 oz, I will use Priority Mail. Up to 16 oz, the “own box” Priority rate is $8.50 (including packing).

Please see my "Shipping Policy" for details.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
