Description

I have labeled this as a pseudomorph after petersenite-(Ce), but the only thing that is certain is that it is “interesting”. The shape suggests petersenite-(Ce), and the surface texture suggests that the crystal was first replaced by synchysite-(Ce). But unless one is willing to poke a hole in the “crystal”, and unless there is relict material in the interior – something that is not very likely – there is no way to be sure. Remondite-(Ce) and calcioburbankite are other possibilities – among others.

The specimen is from the Poudretee pegmatite - famous for many rare minerals. And infamous for many maddening pseudomorphs.

Whatver the pseudomorph is, the part visible in the first photo is about 6.6 mm and the total length is about twice that.

But there is no doubt that the tiny, water clear crystal on the termination is a perfect analcime trisoctahedron. And there is quite a bit of gobbinsite on the specimen (second photo). Unfortunately the crystals are so small that the typical “chevron” twins are not readily apparent.

Single item shipping weight (with MM case) 3.1 oz. Above a total shipping weight of 4 oz, there may be a nominal increase in postage.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
