Description

This is a small, but fairly complex, specimen with several small cavities with “Mineral F” and/or chlorophoenicite and/or willemite. “Mineral F” is the cream colored foamy looking stuff adjacent to the franklinite crystal in the main photo. The franklinite spans ~ 3 mm tip to tip and Mineral F spans ~ 3.5 x 4.2 mm. There is a bit of fibrous chlorophoenicite visible at the bottom. “Mineral F” is a an unnamed but “valid” mineral otherwise designated as UM1986-10-CO:ClHMgMnZn). It is a fizzy carbonate of Mg and Zn with Mn and Cl. In so far as such a mineral can be “verified” via EDS, this has been done on another specimen. In the other photos, chlorophoenicite is the fibrous to acicular off white mousy looking stuff, whereas the willemite is the more robust looking colorless prismatic stuff. The chlorophoenicite has been EDS verified on another specimen. The willemite has the usual intense SW UV response and prolonged phosphorescence. The willemite xls are small, but this is also a good UV specimen – despite its small size. The Franklin and Sterling Mines remain the only know non-slag localities for chlorophoenicite. Chlorophoenicite is not as rare as some of the other arsenates found here and this is just a small sample. But it is rarely available. The black stuff is mostly franklinite, but some cavities also have rims of noindescript pyrochroite. Note: The mine was closed in 1986. This material was recovered by the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in about 1992 and found on the dump in 1993. The mine is now flooded nearly to ground level. Weight 0.6 oz. Single item shipping weight (including TN case) 3.6oz

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
