Description

This quarry is well known for Celestine, some of which is quite remarkable. The crystals on this specimen are on the pale side, and the largest is only about 1.5 cm long. But several of the crystals have a very unusual tapered habit. This is shown most clearly in the two pairs of close-up photos (FOV 4.4 x 6.9 x 4.4 mm and 3.9 x 6.6 mm respectively). This habit is actually common at this quarry, but it is seemingly almost unknown elsewhere. In some cases, the crystals actually taper to a sharp point.

In the second pair of photos of close-up photos, 3.4 mm of a small tapered crystal of is visible behind a larger crystal in the foreground. These photos also show a few of the small, complex, water clear, calcite crystals. The ones in the photos are about 1.3 mm in diameter, but there are many others that are perhaps twice as large.

The color of the Celestine is probably most accurate in the full-view photos.

Single item (no case) shipping weight is 7.5 oz. If combined with other items (apart from a micro or two), the total weight is likely to exceed 8 oz, in which case postage outside the USA gets painful - an extra $6.50 -$10 depending on destination. (But this higher rate is good up to 32 oz – 907 g).

Within the USA, postage now varies by destination. For total weights up to 13 oz, it ranges from $5.25 to $7.00 (including packing etc). Above 13 oz (up to 16 oz), I will use “own box” Priority Mail. The rate, including packing, varies from $8 to $10.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
